In addition....

This is really a note to myself, but you can read it if you want...

Hey Matt, these are some bands you should check out when you want to buy more music:

Kings of Leon
Coral
Killers
Ween

that is all

I like Gary Sinise

Gary Sinise is the only reason to watch CSI New York. Well... actually there are other reasons to watch it... it's better than CSI Miami... that's not saying much. I'm watching CSI NY right now. It's distracting. I watched Head Cases earlier. Chris O'Donnell is ok, Adam Goldberg is better.

I bought gas today. I went to Basic Fuel. A car was stopped on the side of the road. White smoke was pouring out of the front end. After I purchased my fuel I noticed that the car was now issuing forth grey smoke. Grey smoke is bad smoke. It means fire. White smoke is bad, but not as bad as grey smoke. In addition to the grey smoke, there was some sort of fire like flames dripping from the front end of the car. I decided to get a better look, so I drove over to the K's Merchandise parking lot. About that time a firetruck arrived. From my new vantage point I could see the flames that were engulfing the entire front end of the vehicle. The firemen made short work of the flaming car. Actually the firemen seemed to be using more water than what was necessary to put out the fire. The hosed down the front end, the interior, under the car, the car's owner.... they just really sprayed a lot of water a lot of places. Then after they were done spraying things, one of the firemen brought out a sheet of paper and had the owner sign it. Which got me thinking... When firemen come to your house to put out a fire (or to your car) do they charge you for it? I just assumed they did it for free, but you know... I don't know. Hopefully I'll never find out... at least not in the way that the guy whose car caught fire did.

Today I accomplished nothing

I worked a little bit. I was going to go to the library and start my research paper. I did nothing. I played WOW. I went for a bike ride. I suck.

No one remembered what the fanfic topic was for today. It was crazy.

Schemes in the works:

1. Franz/Magic St. Louis Weekend Getaway!
2. Halloween
3. Homework?
4. Operation Bucketjam

This is my life...

Wake up, school, eat, work, wow, sleep.

That's what I do every weekday. It's kind of boring. I would like to hang out with the guys during the week, but by the time I get home from work and eat supper, it's already like nine. I'm such a geezer. But I'm a geezer with a level 20 Druid, a level Rogue, and a level 11 Mage.

School... I don't know about school... it's... yeah.

Labor Day

I've been watching the Jerry Lewis MDA telethon thing. It's pretty sad. Sad for a lot of reasons. Muscular Dystrophy is a pretty bad thing. It's unforunate that people have to live with it. My mom's friend Gina has MD. Some kind of MD, I'm not sure what kind. It's sad to see Jerry Lewis try to be funny. He's not. He just makes these ridiculous faces. It's unpleasant. He had Tony Orlando on. Tony Orlando sang some incredibly sappy "America + God+ MD+ New Orleans" song. It was the worst kind of pandering. It was all and all a pretty unsavory display. How long have they been doing this telethon? Is MD curable? Is it preventable? What kind of progress is being made?

To counteract the negative effects of the MDA telethon I watched the delightful David Mamet comedy, State and Main. I enjoy this movie. It's got Phillip Seymour Hoffman and William H. Macy in it. These guys are pretty substantial talents, and if you're making a movie, I recommend putting one or both of them in it.

Septemeber, September

I bought a bunch of movies from Hollywood Video last night. Seven of them to be exact, all on VHS. This is good because it gives me something to do while I wow. The movies in no particular order are:
Rush Hour
Rushmore
The Two Towers
State and Main
and three Bond Movies:
From Russia with Love
Moonraker
You Only Live Twice (YAY Bath-house scene!)

All of these films cost me a total of $26.74. A bargain, I say. I'd write about how much work is going to suck this week, but I'd rather not think about it. So I'm going to write my fanfic, which is about work. Crap.

Yesterday's Post

I was going to post this yesterday, but I didn't. My computer choked after WOW, and I didn't feel like restarting it.

August 30, 2005
The new recording from the showband Ok Go was released today, so I went to the local merchantile to aqquire it. The merchantile in question I will not name directly for I do not wish to futher sully its already questionable reputation, I will however describe it thusly: This particular establishment claims that to purchase something from them is the best possible act of capitalism one could take part in. Anyway, as a entered the store I was ambushed by 3 of it's employees. "Can I help you with anything?" they all asked in unison. I replied by roundly slapping each of their presumptious mouths and saying; "Yes. You can help me by removing your odious carcasses away from my person, you shiftless gagg-a-bellies." In the wake of the clerks's departures I went about my task of purchasing the new recording. I quickly found the object of my desire, without the help of any petulant shopclerks mind you, and moved to purcahse the goods. As I approached the registers (that's right dear reader such is the dallyment of this merchantile that they feel the need for more than one cash register, oh the credulity of it all) I was assaulted yet again by the clerkery. "I can check you out over here," she said in the manner of someone who frequently says such things without so much as a thought to the consequences of their mouthyness. "I'm sure you could," I replied as I smartly rapped her jaw with my left spat. "That'll be 10 dollars and 69 sense." She groaned as she rang up my tab. I paid her with exact change in the most preditious way possible and quickly left the building, not before, however, I thrashed a good 4 or 5 more of the shopkeeps.

Some of this account is true. I'm not going to tell you which parts fictious and which are genuine. That, dear reader, is for you to determine.

My Crazy day.

So today I was sitting at home and Terrence called and said "Wanna go to a cubs game?" I was like "Where?" He was like "Chicago." I was like "When?". He was like "We leave in 20 minutes" I was like "Bonus." So I went to Chicago today but oddly enough we didn't end up going to the Cubs game. We got about halfway to Chicago when we realized we didn't have the tickets. The tickets were sitting on the table at my grandmothers house. There was a lot of swearing of a fairly creative nature At that point we were sort of commited to going to Chi-town so we continued on. So not having a baseball game to go to, we decided to go Lincoln Park Zoo. Lincoln Park Zoo is like a crappier more expensive less entertaining St. Louis Zoo. That being said, I love Zoos. They are awesome. Wild animals are fascinating. The only animal they had at Lincoln Park that they didn't at St Louis Zoo, as far as I know, is a giant panda. It was actually a touring Giant Panda, so it didn't actually live there, but it was there today. It was amazing. We ate at Bacinos and came home. It was a pretty fun day.

That was all a lie. My life isn't that interesting. I did see brothers grimm today. It wasn't very good.

So I just listened to Matthew's audio blog part two thing. All I can say is Christ. It's was like the first hegg's blog post I read, only in audio form. I should probably be more tolerant of people airing their problems in such an open forum, but I'm not. No matter how many times a person insists otherwise, it is a plea for attention. Maybe not a plea. But their is some desire there to have someone read/hear it and dispense pity or consolation or disgust or something.

Eh.. .whatever. Maybe they can't talk about it with anyone so they feel better just talking about it with everyone. If it works, good for them.

I'm listening to my friends's podcast...

I'm listening to my friends's podcast. It's sort of rambly. I thought it would be better. We could make it better. I think. The best part is when Bucket roars in anger. That rules.... yeah... it'll be better. I'm spoiled by This American Life.

Fanfics on sunday. The topic is stealth. Boo yah.

The cast is pretty Matthew heavy. It's a lot of Matthew talking about stuff, and everyone else trying to say something funny... all at the same time. It's kind of like our "movie".

Ha, ha ha. They're talking about cum. Matthew said Batato.

So... yeah it was ok for a first time out. I think we could actually produce something someone would want to listen to. We might have to learn how to edit.

There is a huge pile of clothes on my bed. All of my pants and some shirts... it's intimidating. Sometime between wow and bed I'm going to have to do something about it... yup...

Maybe someday I'll put something with some actual content on my blog. Yeah... that'd be cool.

This American Life

I've been listening to this American Life a lot lately. It's a good show. Go to thislife.org, you can listen to it too.

So school has started. My classes should be fairly interesting. I'm going to get my books tomorrow. I have one five subject notebook for all my classes. I only have four classes. I've decided that the fifth subject is where I'll doodle and sketch and write stuff during my hayward class. As bored as I get during his classes, I really like Dr. Hayward. He is a very smart man. He makes me feel stupid, but not on purpose. He's an excellent moderator of discussion and a werewolf.

How I spent my summer vacation...

So I go back to school tomorrow. Summer vacation is almost over. It's been good. At the beginning of the summer I set all kinds of goals for myself. I don't remember half of them... I know it didn't acomplish any of them... I think. Anyway, I'm not too dissapointed. I enjoyed my summer, for the most part. I worked a lot, which is one of the reasons I haven't been posting too frequently. I did a lot of thinking this summer, and came to the conclusion that I really like my life as is. My life is uncomplicated. I have great friends, a wonderful family, a fairly enjoyable job, a car that works, plenty of music to listen to, enough games and books to keep me occupied when I want to be occupied; in short I've got it pretty good. So... you know.. .thanks. Thanks to all of you whose unique imput to my life makes it so much fun to live (which is pretty much everyone I know). My life is better for knowing all of you.

I don't know why I'm so gushy tonight... maybe it's my new pajama pants. I'm generally more truthful at night anyway.

Goodnight.

I'm taking Australian Culture this semester

I signed up for some more classes this week. It was fun and painless. I'm going to play Galaxies now. I don't have an X-box anymore. I gave it back to Terrence. Now I can't watch movies and play games at the same time... Ho hum.

Speaking of the Decemberists...

I heard Sixteen Military Wives on the radio yesterday. It was amazing.
I've been listening to The White Stripes a lot this week. I decided to listen to Picaresque today. It's a very good album. I like Busmall.

I bought Joe Wonderfalls for his birthday. He called me yesterday to tell me that he got it. I hope he likes it.

I'm going to watch Coffee and Cigarettes now.

There is a road that meets the road that goes to my house

Today is my oldest brother's birthday. His name is Joe, he lives in California, he's a mechanical egineer for a defense contractor and he's a tool. Happy Birthday Joe!

I'm not trying to nap right now, cause I napped before lunch, just how I like it!

Yesterday I went to the funeral for my great aunt Maggie. She's my grandpa's youngest sister. I didn't really know her. My mom and her brothers did the music for the mass. All of my mom's brother's play guitar except Chris and Terrence. All of the ones that play are quite beastly at it. Roy is just a hoss, musically speaking (and on the Golf course too). The point is my mom's side of the family is just oozing musical ability, but I don't think any of it oozed onto me, or if it has, it hasn't manifested it in a way that I notice. I'm just plugging away at the guitar. It's fun, I just wish I was better. Maybe I should get some guitar books. I don't have any. It seems like people that play guitar have guitar books. They don't look at the books, they just have them. Maybe I need some of those.

Oh, I have a different car now. It's my aunt Betsy's old Sable. It's nice. The AC works.
I didn't go see Ben Folds and Weezer. I'm a nice guy. I stayed and worked. Yeah. I bought the White Stripes first album. It is, like every other White Stripes album I've heard, completely listenable. It's just good music.

I should watch Wonderfalls again before I let Layne and Shaladriel gank it.

I'm getting better at sleeping

So this week I've been working so much, they've been sending me home early. I'm a hoss... or something. I don't always work super hard at work, but I make up for it by being awesome. I feel bad for Jimmy. No one at CMS works harder than Jimmy... well maybe Pat... no. Probably not. Jimmy is the mac-shit.

I'm thinking about going to the Weezer/Ben Folds show on friday... hmm... maybe... yes. I think I'm going to go to the Weezer/Ben Folds show on Friday.

The Giants, as usual rocked my face

I went to see They Might Be Giants yesterday. They are awesome. I got to talk to Danny Weinkauf after the show. He is a really cool guy. If you ever get the chance, talk to Danny Weinkauf, you won't be dissappointed. We talked about music and what other projects he's invovled with. He asked if I play (I assume he meant an instument), but I had to say not really. I would have liked to say "Yes, I play guitar" but I couldn't in, good conscience, lie to They Might Be Giants' bass player. Flans didn't come out after the show, but that's, he was a hoss on stage, he was probably tired.

I got my glasses. They're pretty indie. I also ganked lotsa music from Pete and Steve, including Skylarking. It is incredible. This is the same group that put out White Music?
I still want to listen to the White Stripes, I think I'd dig them...

I'm going to try to nap now.

All of my posts seem to end with me sleeping.... that's hawt

I have DSL now, or something

Tomorrow I'm going to St. Louis to go see They Might Be Giants. Yippee! We're going up there early to hit up the Zoo and stuff. The plan is not too specific at this point, which is good.

Here's a list of things that have happened since I last blogged:
My Glasses broke
Adam quit at Commerical Mail
I saw The Fantastic Four, Twice (just kidding, it sucks, I saw it once, don't watch it)
I got DSL

I did some major listening to Rufus Wainwright today, HUZZAH! He was trying to boost me out of my post Wonderfalls Funk. It didn't work, and I'll tell you why. I'm not sure I'm ready to be out of my funk. It's a pretty comfortable place to be. It's not really affecting me that much, other than my tendency to bring up Wonderfalls and how awesome it is... well it is affecting me, but not in ways anyone other than me would notice. I'm pretty much normal Matt, with a bit of funk. Here's some of the side effects of the funk:
1. Listening to a lot more XTC, I haven't really listened to XTC in a year or two. It's hit or miss with XTC, but when they hit they hit hard, and awesome.
2. I have a tendency to link People/Music/Movies/whatever or just generally drop Wonderfalls trivia on unsuspecting people. For instance, did you know that William Sadler, Wonderfalls's Darrin Tyler, was the Grim Reaper in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey?
3. I am saddened by Canada and Canadian things. Like at work, when I see an envelope going to Canada I get a little bit sad, which in and of itself is extremely sad, like the pathetic kind of sad.

Anyway, i'm going to bed.

Thursday, July 07, 2005

I feel like I should post.

So I finished Wonderfalls this afternoon, and as often occurs when I finish a series of some sort, I'm depressed, not hegs depressed, not whoa is me depressed, just a little down. There's something of an emotional void that has appeared within me. I'm trying to figure out why I'm so blue about it. This time it's more severe than with Firefly. I think one of the reasons is I actually watched this one when it was on TV (all four of the episodes that aired, every time they aired). It's a good show. I'm going to buy the DVD's, maybe if they sell enough of the DVD's they'll make a Wonderfalls movie. That would rule, and possibly rock.

Adam's quitting at work. He's got some sort of electriciany job lined up. Wednesday is officially his last day, but he says Friday (tomorrow) is going to be his last day. He also left early today to kill his ex-wife. We'll see how that turns out tomorrow.

Well little blog, I need sleep. Goodnight

I'm finally listening to Make Believe

I've had this album on my copmuter for almost two months, and I haven't listened to it yet. I figure I should aquaint myself with the new weez stuff if I'm going to see them later this month. I'm liking what I'm hearing, but I'm only two tracks in. I'm definately hearing a little New Wavish sound in a couple of the new stuff...

So recently I've been thinking about something rather meta (as usual); Pretty People. I got started on this line of thinking because of something that happened at work... something that happened before I was hired. Apparently there used to be a very pretty girl that worked in the office at CMS, but she quit because she was getting all kinds of trouble from the wives of my bosses. Apparently my bosses' wives didn't want their men working with a pretty, young girl. They found her threatening I suppose. I never met the girl but her name was Katie, probably still is. Anyway, this led me to think about the difficulties of being a pretty person, or lack there of. Is this sort of anti-pretty sentiment common? Is it just with women? As a person that is neither pretty nor a woman, I can't answer these questions. I personally have no natural aversion to pretty people. I'm not threatened by them. Anyway, if there are any pretty people reading this, and you know who you are (At least, I assume you'd know if you're pretty. I'm almost certain you'd know, I mean, you'd have to. Yeah you'd know.), please tell me if you've ever felt discriminated against because of how you look.

So, last week sucked at work. Work itself wasn't too bad, but the amount was pretty ridiculous. This week should be better. Happy fourth of July
